Josh Vogel was rich enough to buy a building in Park Slope? I lay in bed pondering if that changed my feelings about him. Not if he was the next Donald Trump. He was a sweet guy, but I was hornier than I was broke, and a man who slobbered and slithered and thought Shake N Bake was an erotic sex act would need more than a huge portfolio to keep me happy.

And then I laughed, for if nothing else, here was some new material to mine.

I threw the covers off and raced to my computer. Thankfully, Sheil was in the shower and heading out to buy some books to read on the plane. That meant I could get right to it without having to explain the intricacies of how the comedic mind worked. Not that I had a clue myself.

Every stand-up I knew had their unique approach to developing a routine, and about the only bond we shared was the one that centered around angst. I’m not funny. I’m pathetic. And ugly too. But where else can I work where they let you drink on the job?

Not to mention our best material was born out of our most painful experiences. And given how many I was having all at once, that should explain my sudden inspiration. I had an idea for a bit I could add to this one-woman show I’d written all about dating.
